New show opportunity : wolverhampton

Hello All!!

It’s that time again !! We’ve secured space to occupy for two weeks in Wolverhampton University (the art building). We have use the display cabinets in the reception/lift area from 12th – 23rd April.

So, without further ado, here’s all the details …please read this information carefully, and just let us know if you have any questions…

The Facts:

The Cabinets are located in the MX Building (The art campus) of Wolverhampton University. They are in the main reception and lift area of the building, and so will recieve LOTS of footfall. Plus there’s an open evening event on 19th, so there’ll be plenty of people milling around.

These are ideal for showing [and selling ;) ] smaller, 3-D, or delicate works, because they are locked for the duration of the show. But also perfectly suitable if you’re wanting to show 2-D work.

To put work in these, we’ll be charging £10 for a 50×60 cm space (Which is one third of the rather large 150×60cm shelves). You’re welcome to book more that one space, or a whole shelf, but do get in quickly as these spaces are limited and will be on a first-come , first-served basis. Oh and we’re not charging commission on any sales made, so good times : )

If you’re interested, please email us for an application form at info@prettyvacant.org asap.

The Dates and Deadlines:

-The application deadline is: Tuesday 6th April (5pm)

-The show will run from Tuesday 13th – Friday 23rd April.

-We will be taking delivery of work on Friday 9th April, and Tuesday 13th April (10am – 3pm)

-You will need to collect your work on Friday 23rd April. (Before 3pm)

(Please Note: It is essential that if you apply you are able to deliver on Fri 9th / Tue 13th, and collect on Fri 23rd . If you can’t please let us know in your submission and we‘ll do our best to sort something out.)

IMPORTANT : Before you apply, you’ll need to read a copy of Exhibition Agreement (will be sent along with your application form), as it contains additional information about the application and exhibition process. We will need everyone to sign a copy of this when you deliver, so please familiarise yourself with it. (not as scary as it sounds we promise :D )

And that, is that, except to say that if you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us and we’ll be happy to answer them.

Thanks,
Charlotte and Gemma at Pretty Vacant

Gallery of Past Exhibitions

Hello All,

As you may or may not have noticed, we are currently trying to sort out a better way of archiving the photographs from all our past shows.

Now we will only have a few overview ones on our “Events and Exhibitions” page, and the rest of the images will be archived on here. We’ll set up a permanent link from the Events page so they’ll be easy to find. Hopefully this will work a little better.

So please bear with us as we start to action this.

Thanks :)

Pretty Vacant DY1: ArtSpace, Dudley.

Hi All!

Yes its that time again! We have a new show coming up in Dudley Town Centre with “Art Space”, which is a council run project to encourage the public to engage with Art through  a programme of exhibitions and craft events.

So without further ado, here’s all the dates and info you’ll need…please read this information carefully, and just let us know if you have any questions…

-The show will run from Tuesday 9th – Friday 26th February.

-We will be taking delivery of work on Tuesday 2nd  and Wednesday 3rd February.

-You will need to collect your work on Saturday 27th February

(Please Note: It is essential that if you apply you are able to deliver on Tue 2nd or Wed 3rd,  and collect on Sat 27th . If you can’t please let us know in your submission and we‘ll do our best to sort something out.)

Just let you all know, this is a very small space, so the places available for this show are extremely limited.  Therefore we will have to choose a small range of work from all the submissions we receive, based on what we feel will hang well together.

Now, lets talk money…. It will cost just £ 15  to take part in this show, which is very good for a 3 week run! We will be taking a 20% commission from any sales of work to help fund future Pretty Vacant projects. (Usually we offer a reduced rate of 10% for help, however we will not need invigilators or assistants for this show, so this is not the case this time! )

IMPORTANT : Please email us for the exhibition agreement, even if you have shown with us before, as there a few changes to this. We will need everyone to sign a copy of this when you deliver, so please familiarise yourself with it before applying. (not as scary as it sounds we promise :D )

SO… if all that sounds good to you, and you would like to get involved, please complete the attached application form, along with some images of the work you would like to submit and send it to us at info@prettyvacant.org by no later than 5pm on Wednesday 27th January.

We will get back to you by Friday 29th to let you know either way! We look forward to seeing all of your submissions :D

Thanks

Pretty Vacant Volte brief

Hi All!
Following the success of our Wolverhampton show we are quick on the ball to arrange the next one!
The venue is quite a different one for us, as it isn’t in a vacant shop, but is serving as an intervention into Volte Gallery in Wolverhampton (The old train station building) this is an amazing blue brick building that will attract the attention of both those interested in art and those who are interested in the architecture, meaning lots of people passing through!
We are coinciding this exhibition with one already running at volte, the dates for the event will be Friday 11th December (with private view) until Friday 18th December…. although this is only a week long show it is going to be really worthwhile getting involved in as there is also a Christmas market event taking place so will be busy!!!

So, lets talk money! As the show is only on for a week, we are charging artists £10 to exhibit – which is, lets be fair, quite the bargain!

Key dates are as follows:

Application deadline: Friday 20th November
We aim to then let successful applicants know our decision by Monday 23rd November
Delivery will need to be done by Monday 7th December at latest
Friday 11th is the grand opening/private view!
Closing will be friday 18th December
Work must be collected by Monday 21st (unless arranged with us with lots of notice!)

We have no set theme for this show as we want a really broad range of work – also as it is near Xmas, we’d like a MASSIVE craft section which will be in a joining room – so send us info on anything you’d like to submit for this too (this will fall under the same charge as exhibiting and is an easy way to make some money!)

So, finally….all we ask now is to send this round to everyone you think would be interested….friends, family etc who are makers, and we will shortly be sending round a poster to distribute also :)
Cant wait to see what you guys have for us!

“Art at The Centre” aritcle

Hi all,

It’s a great article and mentions a few of our artists of “Pretty Vacant : WV1″, so it’s deffinitely worth a look

Pretty Vacant WV1 – Shopping and Retail

Hello Everyone!!!

We have just had our Wolverhampton show confirmed (hurrah!)
It is forming part of Wolverhampton Art Gallery’s “Art at the Centre” and is based in the Wulfrun Centre in town. http://www.thewulfrunshoppingcentre.co.uk/

So with out further ado here are all the details you’ll need to get involved (you know you want to)
Venue
The Wulfrun Centre
Wolverhampton. WV1 3HH

The Brief
The Art Gallery’s events will be based around the theme of retail and shopping, which we aren’t really keen on, so we are taking submissions around any theme!

We also have a craft section that runs alongside the exhibition, if you have any work which you feel would be suitable for this, please contact us.

Although we are a non-profit organisation, we do need to charge a £15 entry fee per person in order to cover the costs of renting the space, and we also charge a 20% commission on any sales made, which is reduced to 10% if you offer your time to help out setting up and/or invigilating whilst the exhibition is open. (Commission is charged to fund set up costs and future projects)

If you want to enter some work into this show, please fill out the Application form attached and email it back to us a.s.a.p. (Alternatively just copy and paste all the info we’re asking for into an email)
If you would like to make a site-specific work for the show, please reply with a short proposal (nothing fancy, just a few words about what you’d like to do)

Dates and Deadlines
We want to open the show on 29th August ( bank holiday weekend) and run for 2 weeks until 12th September. The private view will either be 28th or 29th (tbc)

So, this means we’ll ideally need to have all of your submissions by  14th August  at the latest. (Please don’t be put off by the tight deadlines , as we do have a tiny bit of flexibility)

Once you’ve received confirmation you can deliver the work to the unit between 10th  and  19th August (We will negotiate a specific time/date with you all individually, it is possible to arrange a later date for delivery)

We need volunteers!
As this project is on a larger scale than before, we will need a small Exhibition Team to help with the set up of the show. This would be great experience , look brilliant on your CV, and for those of you still studying, a perfect addition to your professional practice!! If you would be interested in helping us , please contact us by email, and we will discuss the details and benefits.

Invigilating
We will need some of you to volunteer a little of your time to invigilating the show. This is not a requirement, but we would REALLY appreciate any time you can offer. We are happy for you to bring friends or relatives with you to do this, plus you receive a reduced commission rate (from 20% to 10%) if you do volunteer some time. (We’ll be open Monday – Saturday for the duration. Times tbc) Just let us know of your availability for this on the application form.

Exhibition Agreement

We have attached the exhibition agreement, which is nowhere near as scary as it sounds. It contains details about the show, and is really more for your information. But we will need you to sign this and send it back to us at 2, Callcott Drive, Quarry Bank, Brierley Hill, West Midlands, DY5 2NF. Just so we have record of you receiving and understanding it.

And, that is that for now
Except to say please forward this to any friends who you think may be interested :-)

We look forward to hearing from you all and seeing examples of all your work
If you have any questions at all, please contact us.

Thanks,

Wolverhampton Uni Intervention

Hi all,

We are still waiting to hear about the Wolverhampton Mander Centre exhibition, but here is another opportunity we have in Wolverhampton coming up -

We have been given this amazing opportunity to promote our artists in an unusual context – within the reception area of Wolverhampton University art building. Open days will be running over this period which means lots of people will be passing through the building and waiting round for interviews etc… so why not make it your work that there is for them to see?

From Monday 30th November – Friday 18th December we have the three cabinet spaces within the cafe area. A place in the cabinets will cost just £10 for the three week period and will be a great place to showcase smaller items you would like to sell, (or these pieces can be not for sale) The £10 will get you a shelf so there is only limited space – each cabinet has 4 shelves. Also, as we got an amazing deal on this we won’t be charging any commission on sales which means you get all of the profit from any work you sell! Smile emoticon

Then, from Monday 4th January -  Friday 15th January 2010, we have both the cabinets again…and also the small exhibition room outside the uni shop. Entry to the exhibition room will cost just £15 and cabinets will once again cost just £10. (again no commission)

Delivery for both these events must be by no later than the Wednesday before opening. We will arrange this with you once you have been accepted.

If this is something you would be interested in taking part in…or you would like some more info please contact us ASAP… if you would like to apply you need to send us at least 3 images of your work and we will get back to you as soon as we have enough applicants!

Thanks
